New nationwide regulations

Digital passport photos from 1 May

Morphing is a technique in which several facial images are merged into a single photo so that the facial features of several people can be combined in one image. In future, digital passport photos can be created either by certified photographers or other certified service providers (e.g. drugstores). They can then transmit the passport photos to the Citizens' Registration Office via a secure cloud system. A code is printed out, which must be presented by the applicant at the citizens' office. In addition, from 1 May, the city of Beckum will provide its own recording systems at the citizens' office in Beckum and Neubeckum. There will be an additional charge of 6.00 euros per ID document for the use of these recording devices in the citizens' office.

Important: Printed passport photos that you bring with you may no longer be accepted after the deadline, nor can passport photos on digital storage media be accepted. A digital passport photo recorded at the Citizens' Office will only be used for the application and will not be printed out or provided to the applicant for further use.

Please also note that it is not possible to use the digital recording systems for other services such as driving licences or fishing licences for technical reasons. A printed, biometric passport photo must still be submitted for this purpose.
