How should the Neubeckum outdoor pool be renovated?
Neubeckum residents want to preserve the long pool
Background: The outdoor pool is 85 years old and urgently needs to be renovated. The refurbishment mainly concerns the swimmers' and non-swimmers' pools as well as the technology. Philip Keinemann from the commissioned gsf planning company from Hamm presented the results of the feasibility study. According to this, there are 2 conceivable refurbishment alternatives. While in option 1 the existing pool length of 50 metres is to be retained and the pool replaced with a stainless steel pool, option 2 envisages halving the pool length and building a spray park and a climbing wall.
The various options were discussed together with Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich. The vote of those involved was then clear: The vast majority of hands went up in favour of option 1, which is cheaper to build, long lanes can still be swum and the number of bathers permitted during peak summer periods can be maintained. Plus point in favour of option 2: the halving of the water area would reduce operating costs.
What happens now? Now the local politicians have their say. The administration will submit a corresponding draft resolution for variant 1. The refurbishment is scheduled for 2026.
