Sri Kamadchi Ampal Temple in Hamm visited

The largest Hindu Tamil temple has been located in the Hamm-Uentrop industrial estate since 2002. Over 3,000 people belong to the Hindu community in North Rhine-Westphalia. Around 45,000 Tamil Hindus live in Germany. The temple is an architectural jewel that combines traditional Indian architecture with modern elements. The artistically designed statues and the detailed interior create an atmosphere of peace and devotion. Visitors are invited to experience the spiritual energy of the temple and take part in the daily puja (worship) ceremonies.

Temple from the outside

A central concern of the Hindu temple in Hamm-Uentrop is the promotion of intercultural dialogue. Regular events such as festivals for Diwali, Holi and other important Hindu holidays attract not only believers, but also people from different cultures who want to learn about the traditions and customs. "We want to build bridges between cultures and promote a better understanding of each other," explains Gunnar Srinath, who gave the guided tour of the temple.

In addition to the temple, since 2022 there has also been a cultural centre with a large hall for weddings and other celebrations, a dining room and a library. The priest Paskaran wants to teach about Hinduism there and create another meeting place to promote interfaith dialogue.

The Hindu temple in Hamm-Uentrop is not only a place of worship, but also a lively meeting place for people looking for spirituality, community and a deeper understanding of life. Whether at a church service, a cultural event or a personal conversation - all interested parties are welcome.
