U18 election
How would Beckum's young people vote?
All 6 to 17-year-olds were able to mark their cross on the ballot papers, regardless of their nationality. Ballot boxes and polling booths created a real-life situation. Anyone who was unsure about which party to vote for was able to find out in advance at the schools. Secondary schools in Beckum and Neubeckum were also able to visit the special polling stations with their pupils.
And here are the results of the Beckum U18 election: "Die Linke" was the strongest group with 19 per cent of the vote, closely followed by the AfD with 18 per cent and the Greens with 14 per cent. The exact election results can be viewed at www.beckum.de/altes-e-werk/
The German Federal Youth Council's project serves to educate young people about politics and their understanding of democracy. It is also intended to help lower the inhibition threshold so that young people also vote as adults.
A total of 38,000 young people voted in over 460 such U18 polling stations in North Rhine-Westphalia. 115 votes came from Beckum and Neubeckum. The nationwide results and all results from NRW can be found at https://wahlen.u18.org/wahlergebnisse/bundestagswahl.
